We are extremely pleased to announce that all eleven sites of the University of California Library system have joined the Open Library of Humanities' Library Partnership Subsidy system. The UC library system has been among the pioneers of the adoption of digital technologies. Indeed, one of the libraries' missions is to “capitalize on opportunities to accelerate the transition to a primarily digital environment.”
Specifically, the sites that have joined are:
- California Digital Library
- University of California, Berkeley
- University of California, Davis
- University of California, Irvine
- University of California, Los Angeles
- University of California, Merced
- University of California, Riverside
- University of California, San Diego
- University of California, San Francisco
- University of California, Santa Barbara
- University of California, Santa Cruz
The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.
Professor Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed the University of California Libraries: “I am delighted that the University of California Libraries have joined the OLH model. I have watched from afar at the often astonishing array of digital developments and projects emerging from the UC institutions. With the help of these institutions, we will further our model for open access in the humanities without resorting to the difficulties of article processing charges.”
"UC is extremely pleased to support the Open Library of the Humanities,” said Ivy Anderson, Interim Executive Director of the California Digital Library. "OLH is breaking new ground in the open dissemination of high-quality academic content in the humanities in an affordable, cost-effective way, and its consortial funding approach holds great promise."
